Delivery options

• Home Delivery – Standard (1-5 days/Free over 100€ EU)
We offer shipping via DHL and UPS. Regular shipping within Germany may take one to three business days after receiving your shipping confirmation. Standard delivery is free for orders over 100€ in the EU. For any order, the delivery time of an item is always indicated on the product detail page.

• Pick-up Points – No Extra Cost
Orders can be delivered to DHL pick-up points. To choose this option, please select shipping from DHL and simply enter the address of the Packstation as the delivery address. Shipping costs will not increase for this option.

• Express – Extra Cost (+10€/Next Day Delivery)
We offer express delivery through delivery companies DHL and UPS after completing your order. DHL guarantees next-day delivery, until 17:00 (from receipt of payment). Delivery is only during working days excl. Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays.
Please be advised that it’s only the shipping option that works Express. The ROTERFADEN team needs one to three days for Taschenbegleiter editions or items that are in stock, and ten days for DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER models.

• DHL Express Saturdays – Extra Cost (+10€/Delivery on Saturday)
If you choose DHL as your shipping provider and select your delivery day to be a Saturday, DHL will add a surcharge of 10€ on top of the express fee of 10€.

Delivery options for retailers

Our shipping partner for DE/EU and worldwide is UPS. Free shipping from 150,00€ order value within Germany. We can inform you about all other shipping costs for retailers by mail upon request.

How long does delivery take for Taschenbegleiter Editions?

Taschenbegleiter Editions will be shipped within three business days after receipt of payment. (Business days = Mon-Fri). Our workshop is closed on Saturdays and Sundays, as we value free time for our entire team. For any order, the delivery time of an item is always indicated on the product detail page.

How long does delivery take for DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER?

DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER models of our Taschenbegleiter are made-to-order, according to your selection. Upon receiving confirmation of payment we manufacture and ship these products after ten business days at the latest. Standard shipping within Germany may take another one to three business days.

Orders for DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER, along with smartphone, tablet and laptop cases, are processed after initial consultation and produced within the separately estimated time. Please understand the stated delivery times may be longer, due to material/color availability or delays with the delivery companies that are outside our control. Can I track my parcel?

Yes, once we start readying your order we will send a shipment confirmation, including your order and delivery information and a link to track your order online with the selected delivery option.

Please note that it can take several hours and in some cases days before the tracking information is uploaded. You will also be able to track your order under Orders when you log in your account on our website.

Will I get a shipping confirmation?

Yes, as soon as your order has shipped, we will send you an email.

What are the shipping costs?

Shipping costs depend on the weight, the country of delivery and the selection of the shipping service provider. The shipping costs will of course be calculated and shown before you complete your order online. From an order value of 100,00 € on, we offer free shipping within Germany and the EU.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, from an order value of 100,00 € on, we deliver free of charge within Germany and the EU.

Is my package insured?

Yes, we send all packages as insured parcels with tracking numbers.

Should I choose Express shipping?

DHL guarantees next-day delivery, until 17:00 (from receipt of payment). Be advised that DHL is the only shipping option that offers Express. For any order, the delivery time of an item is always indicated on the product detail page.

DHL EXPRESS SATURDAY SURCHARGE: If you select your delivery day to be a Saturday, DHL will add a surcharge of 10€ in addition to the 10€ for their Express fee.

Can I have my order delivered at a specified date?

Sometimes the delivery time is especially important, when it’s a gift or you have an upcoming trip. For any order, the delivery time of an item is always indicated on the product detail page. If you need us to definitely deliver at a specific time and day, we ask you to give us a call at +49 (0)681 - 95 90 502, write an email to bestellen@roterfaden.de or state the corresponding information in the input field of your message to us at the end of the ordering process. Tell us what you need and how we can reach you for any questions, and we’ll do our best to make it happen.

Do you deliver to pick-up points, lockers or parcel stations?

If you want the delivery to a DHL pick-up point, select shipping from DHL and simply enter the address of the Packstation as the delivery address. Shipping costs will not increase for this option.

What happens if my package can’t be delivered?

If the delivery companies are unable to deliver your package according to your chosen delivery option under the information and specifications given within your order, it will automatically be returned to ROTERFADEN.

New shipping costs will be charged only if the customer has given an incorrect address or they have not picked up the shipment in the specified period of time (according to the information in the delivery note). If the package couldn’t be delivered due to an error on our side or on the side of the shipping service provider, the customer will not be charged again.

Are you sure you ship to my country?

We deliver anywhere shipping providers can take our products. If you want to be completely certain that we can ship to your country and that your order will be delivered, the best way is to call the delivery company, or write an email to them via customer service. Or write us at bestellen@roterfaden.de and we can take a look for you.

Can’t I get my Taschenbegleiter faster?

Yes, we always have several Taschenbegleiter from our editions in stock and on display in our store that are in stock and available for purchase.

No, DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER models are custom-made and will not be made faster. it’s always depending on the specifications of your Taschenbegleiter and the queue of orders. We don’t rush our process as it allows us to guarantee the quality we are known for. We don’t advance order numbers, all order numbers are processed chronologically. We thank you for understanding and ordering a product that’s mindfully made. Sometimes that takes a bit longer, but it also lasts long.

Will I receive my order in time for a birthday or any other desired date?

Do you charge VAT?

VAT is included in all prices stated. All prices, charges and product information on the ROTERFADEN online shop are subject to change, some items may only be available in select regions.

Can I buy gift cards? How?

Returns and Exchanges

Can I exchange a Taschenbegleiter from your editions?

We hope the Taschenbegleiter you buy from us is exactly what you wanted, but if something isn’t quite right: Yes. For the Taschenbegleiter editions in stock, an exchange for purchases still in mint condition is of course possible. Provided that it was not engraved, according to your selection.

How do I return a Taschenbegleiter edition?

Please ensure that all items are returned clean, unused and have all of their original packaging. Naturally any faulty items can be returned. Any non-faulty items that are not in a condition suitable for resale (i.e. used, stained, soiled or damaged), will not be refunded and will be sent back to you.

Can I exchange a DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER?

We ask for your understanding that Taschenbegleiter custom-configured in DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER cannot be exchanged.

Can I exchange a smartphones, tablet and laptop cover?

We ask for your understanding that custom-made products cannot be exchanged. Refunds are not offered for smartphones, tablet and laptop covers.

Do I have to pay for return shipping?

Yes, the sender has to pay for return delivery. For sustainability and administrative reasons, we do not offer free returns for items, thank you for understanding.

What are the formats of the ROTERFADEN Taschenbegleiter?

What leather do you use?

At ROTERFADEN we only use vegetable or chrome-free tanned leather. Read more about our materials here.

We use high-quality materials from partner companies in Germany and Europe. Read more about our materials here.

There’s a bump or a spot in my leather. Why?

Any imperfections such as wrinkles, scars or possible mosquito bites emphasize the naturalness of the material and its surface. If you are not satisfied with the quality of your leather, please contact us.

How do I care for the leather?

The leather acquires a natural patina through its use over time. It is not necessary to grease our leather additionally, the natural skin fat of your hands will do this sufficiently. Please note that the leather will darken if you grease it additionally.

How old can a Taschenbegleiter get?

They can last a lifetime. Since we started in 2006, the oldest Taschenbegleiter are around 15 years old now. These original models still work the same, their leather just has more of a patina. Read more about our materials here.

If I order a Taschenbegleiter, will there be booklets inside?

If you order a Taschenbegleiter, it does not automatically contain booklets.
We sell Taschenbegleiter and booklets separately. From the range of booklets, select the content that you need at the moment and that best suits your planning.

Can I change my design?

In case of a change request after ordering, we can cancel the order within a limited time frame. However, we ask for your understanding that changes to any customized Taschenbegleiter are no longer possible after receipt of payment, because the order was immediately forwarded to our manufactory after receipt of payment and is processed there.

Can you repair a Taschenbegleiter?

Yes, but experience has shown us the Taschenbegleiter doesn’t really break. Sometimes, the rubber closure strap need to be replaced after many years of wear and tear. If you want us to repair the closure strap or the pen loop, we‘re happy to do this for you at cost.

You can order this repair from our online store, as it is a separate item there. Order the service, and then send us your clean(!) Taschenbegleiter with the order number. Find the instructions on the services’ detail page. Or you can come by our store.

Can I get another inner pocket for my Taschenbegleiter after the fact?

It’s possible in many cases, but we still need to know which Taschenbegleiter model we’re talking about. The best way is to find out is to give us a call to +49 (0)681 - 95 90 502 or write an email to bestellen@roterfaden.de , please state your order number. If it should be possible, we will charge an additional 25,00 € for the sewing work and material.

Inserts and Formats

What kind of inserts do you have?

Visit our shop, we have notebooks, calendars, sketchbooks, weekly & monthly planners, to-do lists, address books, sleeves and a variety of special inserts that all fit our Taschenbegleiter perfectly.

Can I keep other notebooks or calendars inside a Taschenbegleiter?

Yes, absolutely. Many different commercially available notebooks, calendars or other loose and unbound papers can be carried with our clips. For example, your custom company calendar, calendars in other languages or company notepads.

What are the formats of the ROTERFADEN inserts?

• S (10 × 14 cm) — slightly smaller than DIN A6 format
• M (14 x 20 cm) — slightly smaller than DIN A5 format
• L (20 × 28 cm) — slightly smaller than DIN A4 format

Will DIN format books fit in a Taschenbegleiter?

Yes, they will. To be fair and keep you flexible, we work with DIN formats. Our clips will hold them in place. Try to get the right size for your intended use.

Will notebooks from Moleskine/Leuchtturm/Traveller’s Notebook/Field Notes/Hobonichi fit in a Taschenbegleiter?

Yes, they will. To be fair and keep you flexible, we work with DIN formats. Many notebooks from Reclam to school exercise books can be kept inside (e.g. small vocabulary notebook for S (12 × 16 cm) Taschenbegleiter / A4 exercise book for L (24 × 32 cm) Taschenbegleiter).

How many notebooks can I fit inside a Taschenbegleiter?

Up to four notebooks fit into one Taschenbegleiter or a ton of loose sheets. Two slim booklets can share one clip, so you could even fit around eight of them inside. Keep as many papers as you can comfortably or reasonably fit in.

What else fits into the large TASCHENBEGLEITER in size L (24 × 32 cm)?

In the clips and inside the sleeve: E.g. all DIN A4 school books, many magazines and periodicals, folded DIN A3 sheets, of course also all loose or unbound DIN A4 papers or our viewing covers in size L (22 × 30.5 cm).

In the large inner pocket: Tablets and other devices, as well as some slim laptops or our clipboard.

• Taschenbegleiter Tip #1: Ring Binder Inserts
If you want to continue to use your ring binder inserts because we don’t offer that particular page layout (two days on a double page), or simply because you do not want to change the setup you’re familiar with, then you can have such calendar pages in the copy store around the corner freed from any inconveniences (cut the hole punches) and ask for an adhesive binding. This customization will costs only approx. 3,00€.

• Taschenbegleiter Tip #2: Hardcover Notebooks
We have heard of customers neatly separating the hardcover of a calendar book (Moleskine, Leuchtturm, Brunnen..) they want to use inside the Taschenbegleiter and get an adhesive binding. We will be happy to advise on what you would need to do.

• Taschenbegleiter Tip #3: Loose-leaf Binders
The nice, simple loose-leaf-binders made of cardboard)and other traditional folders also fit in the Taschenbegleiter in size L (24 × 32 cm) well. Sometimes you have to cut off one centimeter at the top and bottom, because they are oversized. If you don’t dare to do it, go to the copy store and pay a few Euros into the tip jar to use their cutter.

Will my tablet/iPad/iPad Mini/iPad/iPad Pro fit in the Taschenbegleiter?

Yes, but there are different kinds of tablets and there are different formats for the Taschenbegleiter with several options. Luckily this isn’t the first time we get this question so by now, you can just let us know which device you want to put into which Taschenbegleiter and we’ll tell you if that fits.  When do you release your annual calendars?

The annual calendars for the following year are available in mid-July of the current year. We will keep you updated in our store, on social media and through our newsletter.

Clips

Why do you use clips?

It’s unique, as it offers maximum freedom. There is no restriction on special sizes. Loose, unbound paper and all notebooks and magazines fit inside. Small slips, such as receipts, bank bills, letters, bills, tickets also stay in pace. The clips work for all kinds of paper, nothing has to be punched. They also work as bookmarks, as they can be inserted into any open double page spread.

What do you mean by maximum freedom?

Our clips offer you more flexibility in how you organize, or don’t. You can change the notebooks, booklets and what you keep inside your Taschenbegleiter at any time.

How do the clips work?

It’s very simple. Our steel clips have a spring-loaded mechanism, making them strong but flexible enough. The high quality stainless steel clips in the Taschenbegleiter can be opened and closed with just a fingertip.

What will the clips hold?

The clips will hold all your notebooks, calendars, documents, receipts, letters, bills, tickets, invites, contracts, sketches, cards, recipes, mementos, flowers, or napkins with great ideas, along with your smartphone, tablet, or laptop. And even more than that if you really need it to. Loose paper sheets can be held in place just as well as notebooks.

Do the clips offer advantages?

Yes, several of them. First of all, they’re more flexible, so you can keep various items in, without needing holes, rings or sleeves. The clips disappear into the fold of the Taschenbegleiter. That way, the interior space of the organizer is optimally utilized, in contrast to other binding methods. When writing and sketching, no protruding ring mechanism will disturb your resting hand. Left-handed people love that.

Could the clips scratch my tablet?

No, you can keep them in the pockets and there is sufficient enough space between the tablet and the clips. Also, the paper of the notebook will be between the metal and the device. Should you keep no papers in the clip(s), you can pull them out to make sure you protect the display.

Why three clips? Can I order a Taschenbegleiter with two or four clips?

Three offers the most versatility and use.

If you want less clips, you can always take one out and leave it at home in a drawer. Also there is one model in the Taschenbegleiter Editions, that has only two instead of the usual three double clips, the TASCHENBEGLEITER WK_12.

If you want more clips, you can design the Taschenbegleiter that fits your needs. Select DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER and you can select four clips for your Taschenbegleiter.

Let us know how many clips you want in your Taschenbegleiter before ordering, please specify the amount in the "Notes" field at the end of the order process. Can I only use the ROTERFADEN notebooks?

Our system was created for maximum freedom; if you want, you can pick your favorite notebooks, papers and formats from other makers and carry them inside the Taschenbegleiter.

Engraving and Embroidery

How big is the engraving?

The text or image of your laser engraving will be customized depending on the size of the Taschenbegleiter (or other sewn item).

The maximum sizes on the Taschenbegleiter are as follows:
Taschenbegleiter in size S (12 × 16 cm): width 5cm / height 10cm
Taschenbegleiter in size M (17 × 22 cm): width 7,5cm / height 15cm
Taschenbegleiter in size L (24 × 32 cm): width 12cm / height 20cm
Making the engraving smaller is not a problem, but you cannot get too small, so that the details are not lost.

At which position is the engraving?

The engraving on the front of the Taschenbegleiter starts at the bottom left, with about 1.5cm distance to the seam and 1.5cm distance to the closure band.

What can be engraved?

All sewn items and also our writing instruments.

What color is the engraving?

The laser burns into the material. A color selection for your engraving is not possible. You can find examples in the respective product pictures.

Can a sewn article be engraved after the fact?

Yes, no problem. Please come by our store or send us the item and we will engrave it for the same price.

Which font can I choose for the text of my engraving?

You can choose a print font. You can find examples of the font in the product pictures.

Which file do you need for the picture engraving?

All high-resolution .pdf files and vector files (.eps, .svg or .ai) are suitable for engraving. If we have any questions about your file, we will contact you.

How big is the embroidery work?

Depending on the format of the Taschenbegleiter and the amount of text/image, we will choose an appropriate size.

At what position is the embroidery work?

We embroider the cross pocket of the left side of the inside of the Taschenbegleiter. We position it in the left corner, with about two centimeters from the left and bottom edges.

What color is the embroidery?

We choose the thread color harmoniously tone-on-tone with the color of the inner material. If you would like a different thread color, please use the message field at the end of the order process to let us know.

What can be embroidered?

We only offer embroidery for the DESIGN YOUR TASCHENBEGLEITER, as we embroider the inner material before the bag companion is sewn together.

Which font can I choose for my embroidery?

You can choose a  print font. You can find examples of the font in the product pictures.

About ROTERFADEN

Where are your products manufactured?

All our materials come from partner companies in Germany and Europe. The leathers are chrome-free or vegetable tanned and dyed. The wool felt is also from Germany, 100% merino wool soft and warm to the touch. The vegan leather is breathable, durable and made from cactus. Plant felt is an alternative made from plant residues and wood fibers. Our stainless steel clips come from Bavaria, each of them is tested several times. Yes, one of the independent retailers carrying our products will welcome you warmly. Find our retailers here 

Can I visit the ROTERFADEN store in Saarbrücken?
